Foremost Pioneer in CAR-T Engineering for Hematologic Malignancies and Solid Tumors
Prof. Han Weidong, MD, PhD, is Director of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotherapeutic Center at the Chinese PLA General Hospital (301 Hospital). Internationally acclaimed as one of the world's most prolific cellular immunotherapy trial leaders, Prof. Han has been instrumental in placing China at the global vanguard of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy.
Prof. Han led China's earliest registered CAR-T clinical trials, expanding beyond classical CD19/CD20/BCMA hematologic designs into solid tumors. He was among the first worldwide to demonstrate objective clinical responses using EGFR-, CD133-, and Claudin 18.2-targeted CAR-T cells in advanced glioblastoma, cholangiocarcinoma, and gastric cancer.
Operating from 301 Hospital's State Key Laboratory platform, Prof. Han's research tackles the toughest hurdles in immunotherapy: tumor antigen heterogeneity, immunosuppressive microenvironments, and T-cell exhaustion. His innovative sequential infusion and checkpoint-synergized CAR-T regimens have provided durable remissions for international patients who exhausted standard systemic therapies.

Procedural Frontiers & Department Innovations
Solid Tumor CAR-T Translation
First-in-human translation of CAR-T targeting specific solid tumor cell surface markers, achieving unprecedented tumor regression in refractory GI and brain cancers.
Sequential Cocktails for Leukemia / Lymphoma
Developed sequential CD19 followed by CD22 or CD20 CAR-T infusions, eliminating escape variants and raising long-term leukemia cure rates.
Microenvironment-Armored CARs
Engineered 4th-generation CAR-T constructs secreting localized cytokines and blockade nanobodies to neutralize inhibitory TGF-beta and PD-L1 barriers.
Severe CRS Predictive Telemetry
Designed rapid-turnaround serum cytokine profiling algorithms enabling pre-emptive cytokine suppression without compromising CAR-T cell persistence.
