Academician Zhou Liangfu is widely revered as the senior founding statesman of modern microneurosurgery in China. Elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1999, he directed the Department of Neurosurgery at Huashan Hospital for over three decades, establishing it as the premier neurosurgical referral institution in the Asia-Pacific region.
Throughout his distinguished 55-year surgical career, Academician Zhou pioneered standardized microsurgical approaches to refractory skull base lesions, deep petroclival meningiomas, brainstem cavernomas, and complex intracranial aneurysms. In 2015, the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) conferred upon him its prestigious Medal of Honour, recognizing his monumental contributions to global microneurosurgery.
